Building a combination of hops that complement each other isn’t just a matter of pulling the hop names from a hat. You really need to understand the hop and the aroma and flavour characteristics it offers.
For this Hazy IPA we have again used one of the Hop Breeding Companies trail hops – HBC431. The suggested characteristics of this hop are – fruity, tropical, vanilla and herbal. Looking to boost each of these characters I have used the following combination of hops.
– Amarillo is fruit, in a stone fruit, peach and apricot way.
– Riwaka is tropical with its delicious juice dripping passionfruit.
– Sabro is a catch all for the vanilla and herbal, but also offers a wonderful coconut milk flavour.
When you marry all these hops together, it is like wizzing together a tropical fruit cocktail with a fruit salad in a blender. Intensely aromatic tropical and stone fruits followed by an incredible squeezed fruit juice flavour. It’s like we have squeezed the juice of the fruit directly into your glass.
