6% Brett Ale fermented with local Elderflowers. With the Mayday range focussing on local, the Elderflower were picked on site in the brewery beer garden, around the backyards of Beechworth, and on farmland on the Murmungee escarpment overlooking Mt Buffalo. Bridge Road Brewers have a relatively long history of brewing with Elderflowers. Our first release using them was 7 years ago in 2010 when they were included in the Sasion de Primtemps a spring beer using local blueberries and elderflowers from trees around town. We have since released multiple variations of this beer without the addition of fruit. Ben has also been lucky enough to harvest and brew with Elderflowers in Italy in together with Birra Del Borgo, To-ol (Denmark), and Lervig (Norway) in a collaboration beer to celebrate Birra del Borgo’s 10th anniversary.
We have drawn on all these experiences in creating the Mayday Elderflower.
The beer shows the typical Brettanomyces characters that we’ve come to expect in this range. These flavours are complemented by a huge Elderflower aroma and flavour.
Using a light farmhouse style base, Mayday Hills Elderflower is a 100% Brettanomyces ale fermented in our American Oak Foeder. This beer pours a bright golden colour with minimal haze. With every Elderflower from the North East going into this beer the aroma is dominated by very warm aromatic floral notes.
While being quite a dry beer the brett and elderflower combination gives a full bodied, creamy mouthfeel.
On the palate our signature Mayday brett flavour is beautifully complimented by the subtle sweetness of the elderflowers and a hint of citrus.
