7.9% Marmalade IPA given the customary Mayday treatment of 100% Brett ferment in Bridge Road’s custom oak Foeder, then refermented on 100kg of Marmalade from Jim Jam Foods, made fresh especially for this beer. Bridge Road’s take on the citrus IPA craze but with a difference. JimJam Foods are located on a remote farm in the hills behind Stanley. Owners Steve and Maggie produce a range of Jams and Condiments on the farm property. The farm is home to the JimJam kitchen and the JimJam farm shop.
It’s also home to two cats, hundreds of birds, a flock of marauding wild sheep and more kangaroos, koalas, wombats, wallabies and echidnas than you could poke a stick at. We were waiting for an opportunity to make a fruit beer using a preserve or condiment, and approached Jim Jams to see if they were interested. Steve talked us into waiting for local Oranges to ripen which dictated a winter brew.
Pouring straw coloured with natural haze, our take on the Citrus IPA craze joins the rest of our Mayday Hills range as a 100% Brett ale, fermented in our American Oak Foeder. This time round we added an industrial sized dollop of Marmalade from our friends up the road at JimJams.
Complimented by the unique yeast strain and big Aussie hops Galaxy and Vic Secret, the aroma is a mix of citrus, tropical fruit and funk. The now signature flavour of our mayday range dominates the mid palate and the finish is a refreshing bitter kick of orange peel.
-ABOUT MAYDAY HILLS-
